High Ancient Lagoons : The high plateaus store heavy winter snowpack and rainfall in deep, periglacial lagoons and high-altitude peat bogs. As the ice and snow melt, they feed steep, fast-flowing mountain streams that rush down the stepped glacial valley. These waters continuously erode the valley floor, smoothing the massive granite rocks into the rounded, cascading waterfalls captured in the artwork.
